Manchester City has threatened legal action against Enrique Riquelme after he falsely claimed Erling Haaland would join Real Madrid if Riquelme wins the club’s presidency election on June 7. The Premier League club denied the transfer and criticized the misuse of Haaland’s image.
Manchester City have threatened legal action against Enrique Riquelme, who is running for Real Madrid’s presidency against Florentino Perez in the June 7 election. Riquelme claimed that Erling Haaland would join Real Madrid if he won, a statement the Premier League club has denied.
Riquelme made the claim during an appearance on El Hormiguero, holding up a Real Madrid shirt with “Haaland 9” on the back and stating that Haaland had a release clause and wanted to join the Spanish club. Manchester City dismissed the claim as false and criticized the unauthorized use of Haaland’s image.
Haaland’s father, Alfie, and agent Rafaela Pimenta also rejected the transfer rumors in a statement, calling the situation “very entertaining but NOT true.” They wished the candidates well in the upcoming election.
The 25-year-old striker signed a nine-and-a-half-year contract extension with Manchester City in January 2025, securing his stay at the club until 2034.
